Favorite Movie Scenes

I love movies. For me they create a pseudo reality that forms an escapist route which transforms my world into a whole new world of dreamy possibilities. So I think it's time for me to write about my favorite movie scenes. All time. Of all the movies I've seen so far.

These are scenes that generate a deep genuine inner emotion. They're in no particular order.

Dead poets society.

The students led by ethan hawke begin to stand up on their benches one by one when their professor robbin williams is humiliated and asked to leave the school. Robbin williams plays the role of that perfect teacher. A teacher who inspires. I've always wanted a teacher like that I guess. Who doesn't? I think as kids the difference between someone who makes something tremendous out of his/her life and someone who just fills the numbers is that vital bit of inspiration. So that's my fifth favorite scene.

Batman Begins.

This is the first time batman strikes at Falcone's men. Theatrics, deception and fear. Fear most importantly. We've seen some pretty useless renditions of Batman that it was almost depressing. Until Chris Nolan came along. His idea of Batman is what most of us true to tribe Batfans had in mind. The dark, brooding and tremendously anguished human being who strikes at the heart of a criminal with one very potent weapon. Fear. It was brilliantly portrayed by Christian Bale. And it really did make the hair at the back of my neck stand up.

Thumbsucker.

I don't know if many folks have actually seen this movie, but it's right up there with one of my favorites. It's a story about a 17 year old kid who sucks his thumb and all the related socio psychological effects it has on him and his family. Towards the end there's this scene when Tilda swinton, his mother, tells him that she's been watching him right from his birth and knows exactly how he's feeling. This scene almost always manages to mess with me otherwise rock solid emotions. This overwhelming feeling that theres always someone who needn't necessarily have a solution for all your troubles but someone who knows exactly why you do somthings that you do. Why you are the way you are..amazingly well portrayed by Tilda Swinton.

Good Will hunting.

If you havent seen this movie yet. I suggest you go and do it now. It stars Matt damon as an underpriveleged math genius. Robbin williams plays his mentor and you could argue that he plays his soul mate. In the many councelling sessions that Matt and robin have, there is this last session when robbin asks some probing deep personal questions to matt, whos raised an orphan, matt can't take them and he breaks down so completely and cries his heart out to robbin. It almost feels like all of his burdens have just been washed away. I don't know if he really did cry or he just acted brilliantly but you could see a visible change in his face after that. He seemed so free like this huge load had just come off him. Which is what a good cry is like in reality. It frees you from everything that you're worried about. Tremendous scene.

My favorite scene in Good Will Hunting is in the end when Matt Damon has left and Ben Affleck comes to pick him up as usual. You recall how he had told MD earlier that if he has to leave just leave and don't bother to say bye or whatever. And when he finds that Matt Damon has left, there is this smile on his face that is half sad half happy...

Beautiful movie, man.
